Tortures at Drug Rehab Centers?
Drug rehab centers have taken an awful smack over the years and it seems mass media have been leading the way. Before, it is not unusual for us to see – on television − a scene where someone is being badly treated at one of these clinics. Usually, the scenario show some form of beatings or patients aimlessly trying to untie himself from a straight jacket or a bed, and sometimes being given electroshock treatment. The foods they are served with are less than edible, looking more like mush mud or grass of some sort than anything else. When night falls, the sounds of weeping noises of anguish and rattling of doors are heard throughout the facility. Patients will then be seen walking around with bruise on their bodies and have haggard faces; worn from the treatment they have been given. Exaggerated as it may sounds, the truth is these things portrayed on TV could not be far from the truth.
Today, when we hear drug rehab center, we paint a different picture entirely. You will find patients enjoying serene and clean facilities that will help them relax. Addicts are given their own rooms with nice beds to provide them some privacy and assure that they can rest comfortably. They have appetizing healthy meals to provide their body with nutrition. Patients can have finest counseling from competent psychologists with genuine solutions in mind. Supplementary activities are offered in this environment, such as creative arts, horseback riding, video
games, and much more. Such activities are intended to offer opportunities that divert the mind in a direction other than drugs.
These new pictures of how drug rehab operates give these lost souls hope. With the truth out in the open, apprehension can be out-of-the-way. The notion that torture awaits an addict once you enter a facility is now slowly vanishing. We shouldn’t be fooled by scenes from movies or stories. These facilities are really designed to guide you on your recovery. Rest assured that they are only looking out for your best interest and will treat you without prejudice. As a matter of fact, some of the staff at some point has been addicted to drugs themselves. Let us stop being victims of media’s publicity stunt. Drug rehabilitation centers may have been a scary place in the past, but these does not apply these days. Efforts have been made to create programs and to regulate these facilities to make them better equipped in handling drug addiction as addiction is not only one person’s ordeal but the society’s as well.
